Bruce Davey Thomson was born to Alfred and Birdie Thomson at Broderick, SK, and the family moved to the Morin Creek area that winter. Bruce attended the Ferris School until grade 8, and then at age 14, he quit school and farmed with his dad and uncle, and worked winters in the bush by Edson, AB.
In 1952, Bruce married LeIla Donally, the new teacher at the Morin Creek School. Together they bought the family farm and expanded acreage over the next 25 years. Bruce and LeIla raised 7 children on the farm: Pat, Jean, Judy, Shelly, David, Lori, and Stacey. He loved his big family – both to see them come, as well as the quiet when they left.
In 1995, Bruce and Le Ila sold the farm and retired to Meadow Lake where, thanks to God, he took up golfing and played it with the same tenacity that he farmed. Bruce took great pride in his home, yard, and flower beds. It has been said that he did not ‘mow’ his lawn, he ‘manicured’ it. He became an avid gardener after moving to town and had many ideas of how it should be done – much to LeIla’s delight.

They enjoyed travelling and danced their way across the southern States. They also enjoyed multiple trips to Scotland. Aside from golf, Bruce had many interests including curling, ice-fishing, hockey, ball, rodeos, and the chuck wagon races. He was community-minded and was proudly recommended and awarded a Lifetime membership, along with other significant achievements, with Lions International. He enjoyed his twice-a-day coffee fellowship, trips to the casino, and socializing with most everyone.
Sept 8 of this year, on his 86th birthday, he was diagnosed with inoperable cancer. Bruce spent only 2 ½ weeks in the Meadow Lake hospital. He failed quickly and passed with family by his side.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents Alf & Birdie, his sister Winona, his brother Jack, Jack’s wife Eva and their daughters Louise & Donna, and his brothers-in-law Ted, Wes, and Roy.
He leaves to miss him LeIla, his patient and loving wife of 65 years, his 7 children, 16 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren, his sisters Virginia & Margaret, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many, many friends.
He will be truly missed until we once again see him down the road.
A private family service was held on Friday, November 17, 2017. On April 28, 2018, the family will host a Memorial in Meadow Lake to celebrate Bruce’s life. We would like to invite all friends and neighbours to join the celebration. Details will be provided at a later date. Tributes to Bruce can be made to the Palliative Unit at the Meadow Lake hospital or to the donor’s charity of choice.

Bruce appreciated the friendship and caring of so many people and we are thankful to you all. Our family would also like to thank everyone for their telephone calls and visits with Bruce in the hospital as well as all telephone calls, visits, food, flowers, cards and kind gestures provided to our family during this difficult time.
