Cecile Jarrett was born Marie Cecile Poirier, and spent her early years in Lafond and St. Paul, Alberta. The Poirier family moved to the Dunfield district near Meadow Lake when Cecile was 14, then moved into town a few years later. Cecile’s first job was clerking at Clark’s Store. Several years later she clerked at Lazar’s Store. Cecile was a ball player with the Stampeders softball club in 1947. Bus Jarrett was a coach. Cecile and Bus were married on August 14, 1948. Three sons later, Cecile decided to improve on her grade 8 education. She took ‘upgrading’, and then attended Carpenter High for grades 11 and 12, graduating in 1969 at age 46. Cecile was radiant in the pink lace gown she made. This was followed by two years of teachers college in Saskatoon. She came up one class short and rather that repeat and prolongher time away from her family Cecile chose to work as a nurse’s aid at the Northland Pioneers Lodge. She loved that job, working for 11 years until retiring in 1983. Cecile and Bus had many years of skidooing, bowling, summer trips to BC, golfing and yardwork. Bus passed away in 1998. Cecile stayed in the home they made since 1954, and continued the bowling, golfing, yardwork, and added more coffeeing with friends. She overcame a variety of health conditions, and lived independently until moving to the Lodge in 2019. After Toni’s passing, and the covid isolation, Cecile was ready to move closer to family. In June, 2022, Cecile moved to Willow Creek Manor in Swift Current, where Bart and Joy were able to visit daily. In 1961, Cecile committed her life to Jesus Christ. This relationship, including her local church involvement at Good Shepherd, was a constant source of strength and comfort for the rest of her life.
The Jarrett family wishes to thank Mom’s many ‘angels’ who came into her life over the years. Mom was so appreciative of her friends, and so are we.
