JOSEPH AUGUST DENIS BIENVENUE
Joseph August Denis Bienvenue aged 82 years of Central Butte, SK, lost his courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis at home at Iver Main Place in Central Butte, SK, on Saturday, November 29th, 2025 with his wife Cheryll by his side.
Denis was born to Pierre and Jeanne Bienvenue in a hospital in Saskatoon, SK on July 2, 1943, to complete their family and to give Andrea a younger brother. Denis spent this childhood on the family farm near Carleton, SK. He attended school in Carlton and Duck Lake, SK. Denis, Andre and best friend Jim Jukes spent their teenage years getting into all the mischief that teenage boys can dream up.
After Denis finished school, he went to Toronto, ON to take a course in electronics at DeVry Institute. When he returned home, he worked in an electronics store in Saskatoon and then at another in Duck Lake. It was there that Denis met Cheryll Laybourne from Tugaske, SK and a romance blossomed. They were married on July 4th, 1971 in Tugaske United Church.
Following their marriage, Denis and Cheryll moved to Meadow Lake, SK where they both had jobs. Denis worked at the Co-op Furniture Store doing TV repairs and electronics. He also worked with Johnny Skopyk until he stepped up and set up his own business in Northern Electronics, with retail sales of TVs, electronics, and musical instruments. He also did electronic repairs and sold and installed TV satellites. Denis and Cheryll had the store for nearly 25 years. He continued to install satellite dishes and working the front desk at the Norwester Hotel. Following these endeavors, Denis and Cheryl began retired life. They moved to Prince Albert, SK and as their health declined, they moved to Iver Main Place in Central Butte, SK.
Denis and Cheryll were blessed with two daughters, Carrie born in 1974 and Denise born in 1975. They kept him busy being a dad and taking them camping, boating, fishing, and water skiing.
Denis was a very social man, enjoying visits at the coffee shop and telling jokes. Some of his other interests were boy toys, camping, fishing, boating, tinkering with electronic gizmos, and cooking – especially prime rib. He also enjoyed family get-togethers and adventures.
Denis adopted the Laybourne family as his own following his marriage, as well as the Fred and Jo Barnes family, with whom they spent many special times.
He was predeceased by his parents, Pierre and Jeanne Bienvenue; brother, Andre; father and mother-in-law, Bink and Lillian Laybourne; sister-in-law, Laurel Anne Marshall; and brother-in-law, Bob Yonge. Denis is survived by his wife, Cheryll; daughters, Carrie and Denise; grandchildren: Cory, Ashley, and Lillian; in-laws: Robert and Judy Laybourne, Sandra Yonge, and Barry Laybourne; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial at Titanic Cemetery near Denis’ family home will be held later in the spring.
