“Starts are hard, endings are sad, but it is all the in between that makes it all worth Living” -Bob Marley
Born in in Goodsoil, Sk. To Arthur and Georgina Berlinger and brother to Bernadette. A farm boy, who built a life grounded in integrity, hard work, and compassion. As a skilled and passionate mechanic, he spent decades keeping engines running and lives moving, earning a reputation for both his technical expertise and his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. The shop was more than a workplace to him— it was a place where stories were shared, problems were solved, and friendships were formed.
Beyond his profession, Joe devoted his time and energy to serving others as a long-standing Town Council member, earning an Honorary membership with the Municipalities of Saskatchewan for his 21 years of services. Through his involvement with the Lions club, Museum Board, Beaver River Health Foundation and numerous other community groups. Joe proudly received the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Award for Public Service in 2022. Joe was always there to step up when a neighbor needed help, a project needed hands, or a cause needed a voice. With his involvement in local events, mentoring young mechanics, or simply showing up when it mattered most, his commitment to bettering his community never wavered. He believed deeply in the power of ordinary people to bring about meaningful change. He never shied away from speaking up for what he believed was right and encouraged others to do the same.
But above all, Joe was a family man. He was a devoted husband to Debra for over 50 years, and together, they built a life filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering partnership. Their love was a constant, weathering the years with grace, devotion, and the kind of quiet strength that comes from deep mutual respect. He was the proud father of three daughters, Kimberly(Ivan) Turchyn, Leslie(Nathan) Dixon and Jolynn Berlinger (Travis), each of whom carry a piece of his heart and reflected the values he instilled in them: kindness, resilience, and compassion. He was a proud grandfather to Kelsey(Clinton), Tyren, Kale(Annika), Molly, Danny, Nick(Leanne), Hannah(Colby), Drake, Kylie and a great-grandfather to Tanner. As a grandfather and great-grandfather, his face lit up around his grandchildren with a warm smile, a kind word, and maybe a teasing joke or two. He took immense pride in watching them grow with every milestone they reached. His wisdom, warmth, and humour touched four generations, and his legacy will continue to live on in each of them.
Joe will always be remembered for his kind heart, steady hands, and unwavering commitment to his wife, family, friends and community. He leaves behind a life well-lived and a world made better by his presence and what he leaves behind. Though we will miss him deeply, we are comforted in knowing that his love surrounds us still—in every family gathering, every heartfelt laugh, every lesson passed down.
Details about a celebration of Joe’s life will be shared in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Joe’s lifelong commitment to helping others by lending a hand whenever you see someone in need, just like he always did and carry his spirit forward.
