Lloyd was born and raised in the golden Ridge district. He was very fortunate in that he never had to leave his Dad’s homestead. After growing up with his sister Sylvia on the family farm, he met the love of his life Mildred Dyck, and in December of 1959 they were married. They settled on the home quarter where they joined Lloyd’s parents (Dutch and Susie) in farming and raised their two children.
Lloyd loved his life of farming, especially his cattle. In his later years he didn’t operate the machinery as much but still played a big roll in the farming operation. We always thought it was miraculous how the bales got stacked in the hay pen when Rick and Darcy were busy doing something else. Lloyd enjoyed being involved by helping to move equipment and going for drives to check the crops almost every night. Mom would say “I don’t think they grew that much in one day!” At seeding and harvest time he was constantly in the field ready to help where he could and if he got a free moment you would find him in the buddy seat.
Lloyd also liked to keep an eye on the neighbours… informing Rick “you better get going or Peter’s canola will be ready to swath and your canola is still in the bag!”
Visiting with family , friends and neighbours always brought Lloyd a great deal of pleasure. And he was always checking in on the neighbours. His watchful eye will truly be missed by many!
In his retirement Lloyd and Mildred found their most joy visiting their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren that he loved dearly.
Lloyd enjoyed his life to the fullest by living exactly where he wanted to all his life… that was at home…on the farm!
Lloyd passed away peaceful with his loving family by his side.
