Marlene had a long life of work, some of it being heavy work. After Marlon was born Marlene moved away from home and did some babysitting for a while, then she went to work at Ducluzeau’s Store where she met and worked with Desmond. After Desmond moved to Saskatoon, Marlene went to work for Fred Bandurka at the Shell Bulk Station. She later moved to Saskatoon to join Desmond and be a dispatcher for Lay’s Rays and Bigger transports.
On October 4, 1069 Marlene and Desmond were married. They moved back to Meadow Lake in the spring of 1970 and purchased a partnership onto her dad’s business called Meadow Lake Cartage & Farm Supply. Later purchasing her dad’s shares and changing the name to Mar-Des Sports & Farm Centre. After fifteen years the business was closed and Marlene went to work at Meadow Lake Bakery, then Quality Jewellers and New Venture Restaurant.
Her son Marlon had purchased an outfitting territory and needed someone to cook for his American hunters, so guess who “Mom”. That was 4-6 weeks in the fall and 2-3 weeks in the spring. She did this for eight years until her health no longer allowed her to work.
On the lighter side- Marlene had a good life in sports such as figure skating, curling and she even played hockey with Omega Ladies Hockey team until her health didn’t allow her to continue in the sports. With her family cabin at Jeanette Lake she enjoyed many water sports such as tubing, water skiing and swimming all which she did very well. She also mastered riding the circle board as well as fishing which was a relaxer for her. Her hook would lay on the bottom of the lake while she ate sunflower seeds and she usually caught the most fish.
Marlene will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
