With deep sadness we announce the passing of Rodney D. Laliberte, a man whose life was rooted in family, community, and a steadfast commitment to truth and justice. Rodney worked tirelessly to preserve and restore the history and truth of Green Lake and its people. He made sure others did too.
Rodney was known for his calm outlook on life and the wisdom he shared so freely with those around him. He often reminded people that “nothing is an emergency,” encouraging others to slow down, think clearly, and face life with patience and perspective.
He also believed deeply in laughter and joy, often saying that a person should laugh at least twenty-five times a day. Those who knew Rodney will remember his humour, his stories, and his ability to bring lightness even into serious conversations.
Rodney cared deeply about the truth and justice. His dedication influenced many and helped guide the work that continues today on behalf of the Green Lake Indians. His voice encouraged others to stand up, speak honestly, and never forget where we come from.
Above all, Rodney valued connection — with family, with community, and with the stories that shape who we are. His steady presence, wisdom, and humour will be deeply missed.
Though he has left this world, Rodney’s voice, his teachings, and the many stories he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
“Always remembered. Never forgotten.”
