August is Full of Summer Activities at PA National Park

As we wrap-up July and make our way into August each weekend is jam-packed with exciting events happening in and around Waskesiu! Please feel free to share with colleagues, tourism partners, and the public.

Grab your dancing shoes and celebrate the long weekend!

  • 11th Annual Rock of Ages Dance – Saturday, August 5th at 9:00 p.m.

o        This Annual Waskesiu summer dance will be held at the Terrace Gardens (Assembly Hall) and will feature a midnight lunch!

o        Sponsored by the Waskesiu Chamber of Commerce and Waskesiu Recreation Association

  • 30th Annual Grey Owl Howl Family Dance – Sunday, August 6th at 8:00 p.m.

o        This Sunday join us for the Grey Owl Howl in the Community Hall! Everyone is welcome to this night filled with games, food, beverages, dancing, prizes, and fun!

Participate in Traditional Programming Throughout the Summer!

  • NEW-Traditional Activities – Friday, Saturday, Sunday starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Teepee  

o        Engage in this brand new program and bring Indigenous culture back to Waskesiu!

o        Create a beadwork masterpiece, and discover the traditional medicines and edible plants found in the park.

  • Join talented local Indigenous Artist, Educator, and Author, Leah Dorion, at Saturday events throughout the summer!
    • Heritage Day on Saturday, August 12, 2017
    • Waskesiu Lakeside Music Festival on Saturday, August 26, 2017
    • Outter Limits Fun Run on Saturday, September 23, 2017

Waskesiu Heritage Museum: Heritage Day – Saturday, August 12th at 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The good old days of Waskesiu are brought to life at Heritage Days. Living in a shack tent, old fashion games like sack races and treats like grandma makes are all waiting for you this Saturday.

  • Family Activities take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Waskesiu Heritage Museum grounds and admission is free!
  • Explore your creative side, and paint your own buffalo masterpiece with Leah Dorion.  

Frank Dunn Triathlon – Sunday, August 13th

The Frank Dunn Triathlon is one of the oldest and most anticipated triathlons in Western Canada! Triathletes compete by swimming 1.5 km in Waskesiu Lake; hitting the road for a 62 km bicycle ride, and then running for 13 km in and around the townsite of Waskesiu.
