Morrow’s goal wasn’t shown on the arena’s big video screen, much to the amusement of Minnesota head coach Bruce Boudreau.

“I thought they were going to show it after at least the first faceoff,” Boudreau said. “There was a faceoff about 20 seconds later, but we said on the bench, ‘If they didn’t show it, we know it wasn’t in.’ “

There is no coach’s challenge in the pre-season and his staff didn’t have electronic tablets like in the regular season, Boudreau said.

“The ping I heard, I thought that it didn’t go in,” Boudreau said. “And when they (the Jets) didn’t really celebrate, they were sort of looking around, they didn’t know either.”

The game was a battle of the backup goalies as the Jets sat starter Connor Hellebuyck and Minnesota did likewise with Devan Dubnyk.

Laurent Brossoit, a free-agent Winnipeg signing, made 39 saves. He got the nod ahead of Eric Comrie. A former backup with the Edmonton Oilers, Brossoit is on a one-year, one-way contract. Comrie has a one-year, two-way deal.

He stopped some Wild players on breakaways and was happy with the way he played.

“Two, three minutes they pumped a few into my chest early, that got me a bit of a feel for the game,” Brossoit said. “It kind of just rolled from there.”

Hammond stopped 28 shots for Minnesota. The former Ottawa netminder signed a one-year, two-way deal in the summer after being with Colorado last season following back surgery and a trade by the Senators. The 30-year-old is trying to get the job away from Alex Stalock.

He wasn’t sure Morrow’s goal should have counted either.

“I can’t really say with certainty either way because I knew there wasn’t a lot of net there, but our coaching staff seems to think that it didn’t cross the line,” Hammond said.

Both teams only had a handful of their regulars on the ice. Winnipeg was 0 for 5 on the power play and Minnesota 0 for 3.

The Jets eliminated the Wild in five games in last season’s first round of the NHL Western Conference playoffs.
