SaskPower, MLTC sign power agreement for 8 MW of biomass power

Oct 25, 2019 | 3:19 PM

SaskPower and the Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC) have signed a power purchase agreement for up to eight megawatts of biomass power.

The Indigenous-owned MLTC Bioenergy Centre will be the first of its kind in Saskatchewan and is expected to create enough green energy to power 5,000 homes. The plant creates energy by using the same sawmill waste that is currently burned in the beehive burner.

The project is expected to decrease greenhouse gas emissions by more than one million tonnes over 25 years, and reduce smoke and other harmful matter to improve air quality for residents.
