Lest we forget: Remembrance Day personal to many
Remembrance Day is personal for many. For Alloha Twanow, it’s a reminder of her father’s sacrifice.
Twanow is the Poppy Chair and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #76 in Meadow Lake.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Holland and Twanow remembers when her father fought in the deadly task of liberating the Netherlands from Nazi occupation.
She says when her father was granted a leave to find and visit her mother’s family, he often recalled how despite a language barrier, the Dutch people treated him kindly.
