Turtleford RCMP is reminding the public to lock car doors overnight.

This comes after two Ford original catalytic convertors were stolen from the left side of a vehicle at a business near Paradise Hill.

RCMP Const. Roxanne Hendrycks told meadowlakeNOW, the theft occurred at approximately 5 a.m. on March 20.

“There were a few cars of traffic going by but they waited until those cars passed,” she said. “They went into the parking lot and managed to cut off the catalytic converters.”

Hendrycks said the suspect targeted a vehicle sitting a distance away from the building.

“The security cameras we had, didn’t see that well,” Hendrycks said. “He picked a vehicle that was as far as possible away from the building.”

Officers were unable to catch an the image of the suspect but do know it was a dark vehicle that went on to the property.

“A lot of people experiencing theft, their vehicles aren’t locked,” she said. “A lot of thefts that have happened in Edam over the last year, their vehicles were left unlocked.”

Hendrycks advises locking car doors, keeping vehicles stored in a garage and recommends for the public to take precautions and not leave valuable property visible.

According to Nino Lumanglas, parts advisor at Pineridge Ford, a catalytic converter is used to filter toxic exhaust emissions.

“A catalytic converter converts gases released by the engine and converts those gasses into less harmful emissions,” he said.

Lumanglas quoted a catalytic convertor to cost approximately $1,100 and up.

Police continue to investigate this incident and are seeking the public’s assistance.
