Local cannabis retail moves online as a precaution against COVID-19

The Tweed cannabis dispensary in Meadow Lake was initially slated to open at the end of March but remains temporarily closed due to COVID-19 concerns.

Today, doors are locked and opening notices were removed while members of the community continue to pull at doors looking for answers. There is currently no direction for customers on the store’s door as to where they can purchase cannabis products.

Store manager Brent Michaud told meadowlakeNOW he is waiting on corporate direction to determine the next step, but said he looks forward to operating in the community.

“I know Meadow Lake wants it and needs it,” Michaud said. “I know everybody wants answers as to when our store will open but I can only say what I know.”

Last week, the province deemed stores selling beer, wine, liquor or cannabis products as an essential service.

Canopy Growth was contacted for comment though was unable to immediately respond to the request.

In a press release dated March 17, Canopy Growth acknowledged its responsibility to customers and medical patients and will continue to provide access to cannabis products and prescribed medication through online platforms.

Adult consumers within Manitoba and Saskatchewan are able to purchase cannabis products through Tweed and Tokyo Smoke e-commerce platforms. All other provinces and territories will be supported through government-run online retail.
