CITY HALL REOPENS

City hall reopens after nearly three months

Jun 9, 2020 | 12:06 PM

Meadow Lake’s City Hall has reopened its doors to the public Monday after months of public and private facilities closed their doors due to the coronavirus pandemic. City hall closed on March 18.

During the closure, residents were accessing services through the phone or online, city manager Diana Burton said. Now residents can enter city hall again to make payments or ask questions.

“Everything was able to be done electronically while we were closed but of course, not everyone is comfortable with online banking [or email] for a myriad of different reasons. But this makes us open and able to serve the public,” she said.

While the city will continue to accept cash, city staff encourage the use of electronic payment formats to limit cash handling. The drop box on the northwest side of the building is still open for payments and correspondence for those who do not wish to come in.

“We are limited to two members of the public in the office just because the front lobby area where a member of the public would be served by our front office staff is small. With two people, there can be six feet between them, but if we got more we wouldn’t be able to maintain physical distancing,” Burton said.

Council meetings will also resume on an in-person basis starting June 22 and until further notice about pandemic restrictions are clarified. The city will no longer live-stream council meetings.

In-person meetings will be moved to the Meadow Lake Arena to allow more space for physical distancing. All members of the public are welcome to attend the in-person meetings.

The next council meeting will be June 22 at 7 p.m. at the arena.
