FREE FISHING WEEKEND

Annual free fishing weekend at Meadow Lake Provincial Park coming up

Jul 7, 2020 | 4:17 PM

Saskatchewan’s annual summer free fishing weekend is July 11 and 12 and Meadow Lake Provincial Park is gearing up to welcome anglers from all over the province.

This coming weekend, residents and visitors can fish in any of Saskatchewan’s public waters open to sport fishing without a licence. Anyone planning on taking fish out of the province must purchase a licence.

Trevor Finlay, manager of Meadow Lake Provincial Park told meadowlakeNOW campsites are still available for this weekend.

“Free fishing is a great opportunity to spend time in the outdoors and to discover Meadow Lake Provincial Park and all the great angling the park offers,” he said.

During free fishing weekend, all other fishing regulations remain in effect. Anglers are asked to respect current public health orders and guidance to help prevent further spread of COVID-19.

Finlay said there are many lakes to enjoy in the park with some of their best fishing lakes running from east to west of the park. He says Mistohay Lake, Waterhen Lake and Pierce Lake are some of the more popular fishing spots with anglers able to catch lake trout, walleye and perch fish.

“I encourage people to get out to the park and take advantage of the free fishing weekend,” he said.

Campgrounds are still available can be booked online here for Grave Lake, Sandy Beach and Kimball Lake. The park also offers some campsites on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Travel restrictions may be in effect for some areas, so check your destination before leaving home. Free fishing weekend does not apply in national parks.

More information about fishing in Saskatchewan, including the 2020 Anglers Guide and updates about angling during the pandemic, is available here. Saskatchewan’s first free fishing weekend was held in the summer of 1989.
