Regina man charged after Moe receives threatening messages

A Regina man has been charged after he allegedly left threatening voicemails at the office of Premier Scott Moe.

According to the Regina Police Service, 48-year-old Ernest Miller is charged with uttering threats. He was released on an undertaking and is to appear in Regina Provincial Court on Sept. 2.

In a media release, police say they were alerted by the RCMP on Monday about a number of phone messages left Saturday at Moe’s legislative office.

“The content of the messages was sufficiently concerning to prompt further investigation,” the police said in Tuesday’s release.

In an email, Jim Billington — the director of communications and press secretary to the premier — confirmed the voicemails contained threats directed at Moe. The messages then were reported to police.

Billington said Moe will be continuing with his regular schedule.

Investigators also learned Monday of another incident in which similar messages were left at the office of a non-government agency Saturday.

On Monday at about 2:45 p.m., police found the man they believe made the calls. He was arrested and subsequently charged.

“As this case has resulted in an arrest and is now before the courts, the Premier’s Office will have no further comment on this matter,” Billington wrote.
