Meadow Lake woman wins $10,000 Amplify grand prize

Jul 4, 2022 | 11:56 AM

A contest that cost just a few minutes of her time, landed a Meadow Lake woman a $10,000 shopping spree.

Kim Halpenny participated in Pattison Media’s Amplify program – an initiative used to focus on the incredible local businesses, organizations, events and people that make our communities strong and vibrant.

A total of 52 $100 gift cards were given away to the radio listeners who made a nomination over the last year. There were also monthly prizes of $1,000 gift cards. Halpenny won the grand prize when she was drawn out of hundreds of entries.

“No way! That’s amazing. That’s a great way to start a Monday – heck yeah it is,” Halpenny told CJNB radio host Grant Schutte after she was notified about the win.

Halpenny originally nominated Sikup General Store in Dorintosh, SK. The Amplify initiative was well received by the communities according to Pattison Media’s Mike Aimoe, manager for the Battlefords and Meadow Lake markets.

“The businesses nominated were very pleased to know they stood out in their respective communities. Since these are listener-based nominations, it always feels great to be recognized by your customers and peers. And what better way to share that pride than with the biggest loud-speaker available…our radio stations and digital properties,” said Aimoe.

The nominations that were drawn for the grand prize giveaway received additional coverage with written profiles and podcast episodes on Pattison Media digital properties including CJNB.ca and CJNS.ca/meadowlakeNOW.com.

Halpenny’s shopping spree is made up of $10,000 worth of gift cards to Home Hardware Building Centre in Meadow Lake.

“Well, there are so many options. I could get two whole sheets of plywood,” Halpenny joked. “Seriously, I may have to get some new power tools or its actually my dog’s birthday today, so I’ll have to get him a present.”

She added she should be responsible and finish her basement, but she may be irresponsible and spend her winnings it in the greenhouse.

Home Hardware Building Centre was the Meadow Lake sponsor for the Amplify grand prize, while Destination Battlefords and Turtleford and District Coop were sponsors for the Battlefords market.

“These local businesses see the value in being there to serve our communities,” said Aimoe. “They have expanded their businesses to offer more products and services where we live. They continue to build relationships by partnering with local organizations and community groups and we were very thankful to have them on board.”

Whether it was a cozy café, a charity fundraiser or a cornerstone of the business community, the Amplify program allowed listeners to share through the nominations which businesses matter to them.
