Prisoner assaults police officer during attempted jailbreak in Buffalo Narrows

An RCMP officer received minor injuries when a prisoner punched him during an attempt to leave his cell in Buffalo Narrows.
Police say they received a report from guards around 4:20 p.m. on Oct. 5 that a prisoner was trying to damage the toilet in his cell. When the responding RCMP officer went into the cell to deal with the situation, the prisoner punched the officer in the head and face several times.
The prisoner forced his way out of the cell and tried to leave the detachment, but was eventually stopped by the officer who was responding to the incident alone.
Twenty-eight-year-old Cayde Gauthier faces several charges including assaulting a police officer causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest. Cayde has been in custody since September 30 facing an assault with a weapon charge.
