Meadow Lake ag dealership to relocate to RM for more space

A City of Meadow Lake agricultural machinery dealership is relocating to the RM of Meadow Lake to have more room to grow.

RM CAO Richard Levesque said the dealership, Meadow Power and Equipment Ltd., recently applied at the RM council for a subdivision in the RM for its business. It’s currently located at 613-9th St. W. in the City of Meadow Lake.

“It’s a business that’s actually in the city right now, so they’ll be relocating onto a bigger site [in the RM],” Levesque said.

He noted the current site in the city is probably not big enough for the business.

“They are cramped in, beside McDonald’s [Restaurant] and a few other businesses there,” Levesque said. “They just need more room.”

Council approved the application for the subdivision at its recent meeting.

The proponent will be subdividing off one parcel of property in the RM or their own use, as part of the process.

“It’s on undeveloped property, south of the city,” Levesque said, adding the property is currently zoned agricultural but it will now be rezoned for commercial use.”

The business will next need to take out a development permit and building permit.

“That will just be standard procedure,” Levesque said. “Council supports expanding commercial development in the RM, and expanding our tax base.”

Troy Johnson, co-owner of Meadow Power and Equipment, said the business will keep its operation open in the city of Meadow Lake until the new site is ready to open in the RM.

“We will maintain continuous service to our customers during the transition,” he said.

Johnson notes the company is looking forward to having more space in the RM. The new building will also be larger than the current one.

“With the addition of the different [product] lines we’ve had, and the expansion of the Case IH New Holland Sales and Bombardier Recreational Products,” he said. “We just need a little more space because the size of equipment nowadays has just gotten larger and larger. So we need a larger space to service and maintain these items.”

Johnson added construction on the new site will start this summer.
