Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) have released information about the suspect wanted in connection to a suspicious death in Pelican Narrows earlier this week.

Police are actively searching for 31-year-old Brett McCallum, who is wanted for second-degree murder in the death of 26-year-old Jaden Custer. The charge was laid on Friday.

McCallum, who also goes by Nigel, is described as being approximately 6 feet tall and roughly 200 lbs with black hair and brown eyes. He has a mole above his right eyebrow and scars on both forearms, along with a crown tattoo on right hand and a rosary and cross tattoo on left forearm.

Police say he is known to travel to the Prince Albert area, but his current whereabouts are unknown.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts, or who spots Brett ‘Nigel’ McCallum, are urged to contact police at 310-RCMP (7267). Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

The death on Thursday of a 26-year-old man at Pelican Narrows is now handled by the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit.

Around 3:40 a.m., officers from the local detachment were called to a home for a report of an injured man.

Inside they found Jaden Custer, who was later declared deceased at the scene.

Officers determined the death was suspicious and called in the HIU.

It is the second time in recent days the HIU was called to the community of 2,000 people in northeast Saskatchewan.

A planned search of Pelican Narrows on May 13 resulted in police finding the remains of Jay’siiah Webb-Long, a missing 16-year-old from Brampton, Ontario.

He was reported missing by family members in May 2025 and was living in Pelican Narrows. The HIU has been investigating his disappearance since July 2025 after it was deemed suspicious.

Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation is holding a media conference this afternoon to address the level of violence seen in Pelican Narrows recently.
