RCMP investigating homicide in Montreal Lake

A suspicious death on Montreal Lake Cree Nation has been ruled a homicide, according to Saskatchewan RCMP. 

Montreal Lake and Waskesiu RCMP were first called to a home in the community around 1:10 a.m. on June 1 for a report of an injured man. Officers provided first aid to the victim until EMS arrived, but he was declared deceased at the scene. 

The death was determined to be suspicious in nature, and Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) took control of the investigation. 

The victim has since been identified as 24-year-old Steven Beatty from Timber Bay. No suspect was named by RCMP. Victim services have been made available to his family.
