Environment Canada warns of potential funnel clouds in Battlefords and Meadow Lake area

Jun 16, 2026 | 1:54 PM

Environment Canada has issued a warning for parts of Saskatchewan including the Battlefords and Meadow Lake where conditions will be favourable for the development of funnel clouds.

These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms.

While this weak rotation is not normally a danger near the ground, the weather service said there is a chance that rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.

Landspout tornadoes do not usually cause significant damage, but can still be strong enough to topple trees, damage roofs or toss debris short distances.

Any funnel cloud sightings should be taken seriously. If a funnel cloud develops nearby, prepare to take shelter. These funnel clouds typically appear with little or no warning.

The public is advised to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.

Along with the Battlefords and Meadow Lake, conditions are favourable for funnel clouds to develop in the following areas.
