SIRT investigating man’s death at Turtleford RCMP detachment

A 37-year-old man died while in RCMP custody at the Turtleford Detachment on Tuesday afternoon, prompting an investigation by Saskatchewan’s police watchdog.

According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, officers executed a warrant at a residence on Thunderchild First Nation on July 29 as part of an ongoing investigation. The man was arrested without incident and transported to the Turtleford Detachment, where he arrived at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Police said the man experienced medical distress while being held in the detachment’s cells at around 3 p.m.

RCMP officers immediately began providing medical assistance before emergency medical personnel arrived at the detachment. Despite those efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the detachment.
