Poundmaker Cree Nation teen brings Saskatchewan to national spelling bee
A trip to the national stage gave one Poundmaker Cree Nation teen more than a chance to test her spelling – it also gave her the opportunity to represent Saskatchewan and inspire other Indigenous youth.
Thirteen-year-old Dallynn Tootoosis was Saskatchewan’s lone competitor and the only Indigenous contestant at the Canada National Super Spelling Bee in Ottawa.
“It was pretty fun,” Tootoosis said. “Even though I didn’t win, I got to go to Ottawa and then me and my family went sightseeing and everything and it was so fun.”
