Competition Bureau should investigate government for ‘greenwashing’: NDP
OTTAWA — NDP parliamentary leader Don Davies says Prime Minister Mark Carney’s own words suggest government advertising about building clean energy projects violates Canada’s law against greenwashing.
The Competition Bureau defines greenwashing as false, misleading or unsubstantiated environmental claims about a product, service or practice.
Davies is asking the Competition Bureau to investigate whether government advertising which says Canada is building a “cleaner future” violates the legislation which outlaws greenwashing.
Davies argues Carney himself has acknowledged Canada’s emissions are going to be higher after policy changes to roll back some Trudeau-era climate policies.
