Lloydminster debt projected to top $100M as major infrastructure spending continues
Lloydminster’s debt could top $100 million by the end of the year as the city finances major infrastructure projects, with more borrowing potentially on the horizon as it develops a 10-year capital plan.
The city projects about $102.5 million in outstanding debt by Dec. 31 if all currently approved borrowing proceeds, about 54 per cent of its $188-million legislated debt limit.
Principal and interest payments are projected at about $6.7 million by year-end, well below the city’s $31.3-million legislated debt-service limit.
The increase comes as Lloydminster pays for major construction. Administration said the city took a $30.4-million loan disbursement for the Cenovus Energy Hub earlier this year, along with a final $3.2-million draw for the wastewater treatment plant.
