Ready to Move homes helping Saskatchewan housing market
According to data shared by the Saskatchewan Government, 2026 is on pace to be the busiest year ever when it comes to houses being built.
A large portion of that trend is coming from the Ready to Move (RTM) housing market. Curtis Lemeiux is one of the co-owners of Econo Lumber in Prince Albert, which started its own Ready to Move business last year.
Lemeuix said there’s a major reason so many people are going to RTMs: a lack of skilled labourers. With RTMs, travel time and expenses are removed for the subcontractors building the homes, and that allows people to get the homes they want cheaper.
“All the sub trades go daily to the site, whether it’s guys framing or people insulating or putting siding on. It’s a lot easier for them, and they really like doing that because they go into lots of work every day, rather than sometimes a sub trade may not particularly want to drive to where ever, whether it’s Weyakwin or Nemeiben, to insulate a house. Obviously there’s a lot of added cost to that when they have to do that.”
