Onion Lake man arrested on firearm-related charges

Onion Lake RCMP have arrested a man who was wanted for being unlawfully at large and for firearm-related offences.

RCMP received a report Sept. 11 that a man had pointed a firearm at a victim inside a residence on Onion Lake Cree Nation.

Investigators determined the man also threatened the victim and broke a window at the residence. The victim reported no physical injuries to police.

Further investigation resulted in 23-year-old Ryden Dillon-Giroux of Onion Lake being charged with one count each of:

break and enter to commit an indictable offence

carrying a concealed weapon

Investigators also determined Dillon-Giroux had been released from a correctional facility Sept. 10 and was subject to statutory release conditions. Correctional Service Canada issued a warrant for his apprehension Sept. 11.

Onion Lake RCMP continued working to locate and arrest Dillon-Giroux.

On Sept. 20, officers conducting proactive patrols in the Onion Lake area stopped a vehicle with a burned-out headlight. Dillon-Giroux was a passenger and was arrested on the outstanding warrants.

Dillon-Giroux appeared in Lloydminster provincial court Sept. 21.
