Baseball Sask. eliminates age group term Midget

Baseball Saskatchewan made the decision to eliminate the term Midget from their grouping terminology during their January board meeting Monday night.

Instead of the age group being coined Midget, they replaced it with under 18 or 18U. The association also eliminated the terms Mosquito, PeeWee, and Bantam, replacing them with the corresponding age range.

The two exceptions to this rule are the Rally Cap and Senior programs, and that is due in part to not having age restrictions at the separate levels.

In a press release this morning, President Shaun Fraser stated: “We want baseball to be inclusive and welcoming to all. By doing this we will be aligning ourselves with Baseball Canada and other sports organizations.”

Although Baseball Saskatchewan made the change, Saskatchewan Hockey declined to comment on the term.
