Cody Coverchuk hoped to get the hometown win a third time in three years but fell short.

The Meadow Lake cowboy received a huge ovation on his first run at The Tuff ‘N’ Up Like A Rock bull riding event held at the Meadow Lake and District Arena June 6.

After the first round, Coverchuk, Marcos Gloria and Shay Marks were all tied with 82.5 points.

Shay Marks from Sunnybrook, Alta., then took home the top prize with a combined 167 points. Close behind Marks was Logan Beiver from Clareshome, Alta., with 165.5 points.

Leighton Wood, president of the Meadow Lake Stampede Association, said they always have a good crowd every year for the bull riding event.

“Last night might have been a little up from the average,” Wood said.

The bull riding event is a part of Stampede Week which continues June 7 and 8 with more rodeo events in the arena.

“We had a good night last night and I think we’ll have a good turn out tonight,” Wood said. “Weather seems to be cooperating with us being indoors.”
