Riders re-sign LB Judge to 1-year term

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have locked up a key piece of their defence for the 2020 season, signing Canadian linebacker Cameron Judge to a one-year contract extension.

Judge, 25, is coming off of a career season in 2019 with the Riders, and was set to become a free agent on Feb. 11.

He earned his team’s and the CFL West Division’s nomination for Most Outstanding Canadian; he notched career highs in tackles (61), special teams tackles (11), sacks (5), interceptions (2) and forced fumbles (1); he returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown on Nov. 2 against Edmonton.

He has spent the entirety of his three-year CFL career with the Riders, who drafted him in the first round (2nd overall) of the 2017 draft.

Judge played his college football at UCLA; he was born in Montreal.

The Roughriders still have work to do if they want to retain a similar linebacking core as what they had in 2019. Derrick Moncrief has joined the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders (formerly of Oakland), while Canadian linebacker Sam Hurl remains unsigned heading into the league’s free agency period.

Fellow linebacker DyShawn Davis could fill in as a starter in the rotation, but as of Monday morning, he’s also set to become a free agent on Feb. 11.
