Province records 33 new COVID-19 cases, amends gathering order, releases youth numbers

There are 33 new COVID-19 cases and nine recoveries reported in the province today, Oct. 15.

The latest numbers brings the total provincial tally to 2,232 cases. The new cases are located in the Far North West (three), Far North East (two), North Central (two), North East (two), Saskatoon (eight), Central East (eight), Regina (seven) and South Central (one) zones. One case still has their location pending.

Of the total cases, 271 are considered active. The province has recorded 1,936 recoveries.

There are eight people in hospital. Six are receiving inpatient care with four in Saskatoon, one in the North West zone, and one in the North Central zone. There are two patients receiving intensive care with one in Saskatoon and one in Regina.

Of the 2,232 cases, 318 are travellers, 1,081 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 622 have no known exposures and 210 are under investigation by local public health.

Across the province, 78 cases are healthcare workers (although not all sourced their infections from work). There are 386 cases involving people aged 19 years old and younger.

There are 751 cases in the 20 to 39 age range, 673 in the 40 to 59 age range, 351 in the 60 to 79 age range and 71 in the 80-plus age range.

Fifty-one per cent of cases are females and 49 per cent are males.

There are 25 deaths related to COVID-19 reported to date.

There are:

  • 467 cases are from the south area (226 south west, 208 south central, 33 south east)
  • 462 cases are from the Saskatoon area
  • 384 cases are from the far north area (359 far north west, 0 far north central, 25 far north east)
  • 354 cases are from the north area (140 north west, 134 north central, 80 north east)
  • 323 cases are from the central area (187 central west, 136 central east)
  • 241 cases are from the Regina area

To date, 222,964 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province, with 2,305 performed yesterday.

Testing is available to anyone who requests it, regardless of whether or not they have symptoms.

Private Gatherings Reduced

Due to an increase in COVID cases across the province linked to private and public social gatherings, the public health order was amended. The maximum gathering size for private gatherings in a residence will be 15 and is in effect starting tomorrow Oct. 16.

The amendment will not impact restaurants, licensed establishments, or banquet halls. Weddings, funeral and religious gatherings are still required to follow seating and physical distancing guidelines.

Any event that happens at a private dwelling, including weddings, religious gatherings or funerals must still abide by the new 15-person limit.

Youth Report

The province continues to monitor COVID-19 cases in school-aged children across Saskatchewan. This week’s report was published on the province’s website. There are 31 active cases for youth aged zero to 19 in the province.

NITHA COVID-19 numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority released their daily COVID-19 update that are specific to their communities.

Three cases are active in the Far North West, and 15 cases are active in the Far North East.

Seventeen cases are active in the North Central, one of which is in hospital, and ten cases are active in the North East.

There are 82 cases (65 per cent) that have recovered.
