Meadow Lake Kin Clubs dialed in to alternative TeleMiracle 45 fundraisers

With the 45^th annual TeleMiracle finally kicked off, Kin Clubs across Saskatchewan are ramping up the excitement to make this year’s fundraiser one of the biggest to date.

Despite having their live fundraiser cancelled in Meadow Lake, the local Kin chapters are moving forward with some of their other fundraisers to keep the TeleMiracle spirit alive in the community.

Throughout the week, the Meadow Lake Kinsmen Club is holding their Burger Battles event. Local businesses are challenged to create a Kin Burger Combo of their choice with a portion of the sales going to the Kinsmen Club.

The Kinettes are hosting a live auction on Facebook that currently has more than 80 items available for bidding. People need to place their bids on their preferred items before the auction closes at 8 p.m. on February 25.

In a typical year, residents in Meadow Lake and area have the opportunity to attend a large event held at the Civic Centre. Filled with live entertainment, a bid board and more, the current state of public health has led to this event being cancelled. The Civic Centre is also being used as a COVID testing site at this time.

Chet Rogers, President of the Meadow Lake Kinsmen Club, stated the loss of the event is disappointing as the affair has become a tradition in the city and an event they have been building up every year.

“This has been running so long and it’s a tradition we don’t want to lose in Meadow Lake. We don’t plan on it, but we have to adapt to the current state of the world, and unfortunately our TeleMiracle is not able to happen [this year],” Rogers said.

Meadow Lake Kinette President Tammy Much reciprocated Rogers’ sentiment regarding the event’s cancellation, adding she hopes people will still make contributions despite the lack of the social gathering.

“The Meadow Lake Kin Club has put on TeleMiracle in Meadow Lake pretty much since they started. I think it’s going to affect the numbers because Meadow Lake has always been a huge contributor. As long as I’ve been here, they’ve always donated fifty, sixty, seventy-thousand dollars to TeleMiracle,” Much stated.

“]If you would’ve come to the Civic Centre and made a donation, phone in that donation…That way, TeleMiracle as a foundation still receives the money that they would have gotten.”

While this year’s event in Meadow Lake will not move forward, Rogers stated the Kin Clubs are hopeful they will have an opportunity to revive the event next year and make it ‘bigger and better.’

The TeleMiracle 45 pre-show is slated to begin at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday night with the 20-hour television broadcast running from 9 p.m. until 5 p.m. on the following Sunday. People can tune into the pre-show’s live stream at www.telemiracle.com.
