Meadow Lake Kin clubs chip in more than $10K to TeleMiracle 45

The numbers are almost completely in, and the Meadow Lake Kin clubs are estimating that the Meadow Lake community has contributed over $11,000 to this year’s TeleMiracle fundraisers.

Over the past week, the Kinette Club hosted their live auction on Facebook while the Kinsmen club held their Burger Battle with the assistance of local businesses. The live auction brought in around $10,000 and the Burger Battle chipped in a little over $1,000. These totals are added to the provincial sum of $5.6 million.

Chet Rogers, Meadow Lake Kinsmen President, said he is glad the city could contribute to the cause, but added he is always looking for ways to maximize donations.

“With TeleMiracle or any charity function we always want more, but any amount we raise is going to help. It’s never anything to scoff at—we always want to try and go higher—but anything we raise does help and make a difference in someone’s life,” Rogers said.

“Provincially, $5.6 million in change, so that’s an amazing number every time. Anytime you’re in the millions, that’s a pretty crazy thought for most people. I think that’s awesome, and that just goes out to Kin and Kinettes across the province who have put a lot of time into this.”

Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19 and the state of the economy, TeleMiracle 45 exceeded the amount from the previous TeleMiracle set at a little over $5.5 million.

With this year’s event in the rear-view mirror, Rogers stated the Kinsmen Club has started looking into how they can improve the event next year with COVID restrictions hopefully being lifted.

“With any TeleMiracle, as soon as it finishes we have a few days of rest kind of thing and the mind is already rolling on what we can do to improve. If you’re not improving, you’re falling behind. We’ve already had some discussions and once we can resume our meetings, we can hash out some details on what we want to try and how we want to go forward. I’m excited for next year and hopefully we don’t have these restrictions in place and we can find a way to be more involved.”

Including the new intake of donations, the TeleMiracle fundraiser has brought in more than $145 million for people needing specialized medical and mobility equipment.
