Regional talent thriving at North American Chuckwagon Championship

A number of the top chuckwagon racers from across the country, are in Lloydminster this week for the first-ever North American Chuckwagon Championship.

The event, which began Sunday, July 11, is put on by the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association (CPCA) and is being held at the Lloyd Exhibition grounds until Monday, July 19.

Heading into the sixth day of racing Friday, St. Walburg’s Jamie Laboucane leads the aggregate standings with a total time of 6:27.92 through the opening five days. Laboucane is followed closely by Meadow Lake’s Logan Gorst with a time of 6:32.05 and Lloydminster’s BJ Carey at 6:32.13

Also representing the local area is Cando’s Todd Baptiste, who sits sixth overall heading into Friday evening with an aggregate time of 6:34.41.

The first heat of Friday’s races will get underway at 6:40 p.m., and include Meadow Lake rookies, Jaycee Myette and Calvin Fiddler, along with Frog Lake, Alta.’s Louis Stanley.

Four of the top six names in the aggregate standings leaderboard will clash in the final race of the night as part of heat nine, including Laboucane (#1), Carey (#3), Brad McMann (#5), and Baptiste (#6).

Gorst (#2) and Duck Lake’s Lane Tournier (#4) will be two of the four names in heat eight.
