Active number of cases drop below 2,000, first time since Aug. 28

The province reported there are currently 1,950 cases of COVID-19 active in Saskatchewan as of Nov. 1.

This is a drop of 172 cases from yesterday’s total of 2,122 and the lowest number of active cases since Aug. 28.

Three new deaths were also reported today bringing the provincial total to 854 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died.

The provincial government also reported another 128 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today; 105 are among unvaccinated individuals and 40 are in children ages 0-11.

Of the new cases, 35 are in Northern zones of the province; Far North East (three), North West (10), North Central (15), North East (seven).

There has been a total of 77,793 reported cases since the pandemic began and 74,989 cases are now considered recovered.

Less than one-third (32.0 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 11 years and under.

More than one-fifth (21.8 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated

As of Nov. 1 a total of 222 individuals are hospitalized, a drop of four cases compared to yesterday, including 167 inpatient hospitalizations and 55 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 222 patients, 153 (68.9 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

In addition to SK ICUs, there are 26 residents in out-of-province ICUs.

NITHA numbers

As reported on Oct. 31, there are three new cases in NITHA communities; 100 per cent of which were unvaccinated individuals.

There are 151 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, 38; Far North East, 76; North Central, 21; and North East, 16. There have been 6,620 cases (97 per cent) have recovered, and 11 people are hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

The Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) is pleased to continue to report no new active COVID-19 cases reported in the AHA region for at least two weeks straight.

In a recent press release, Taiwo Olubanwo, executive director of Primary Health Care with AHA said 13 active cases were reported on Sept. 29 and a month later, Oct. 29, AHA does not have any active cases

Fond Du Lac was the most hit in August and September 2021.

“We are pleased to report that FDL beats the presumptive COVID-19 outbreak while all the cases were effectively managed,” stated Olubanwo in the release.

The COVID-19 outbreak declared in Black Lake on July 23 was officially rescinded on Oct. 4.

Of the total reported CoVID-19 cases, 77 per cent were unvaccinated, 16 per cent were fully vaccinated and seven per cent partially vaccinated.

Olubanwo also reported that nearly half of the population in the far north central region zone that AHA covers have been fully vaccinated.

Looking ahead, Olubanwo reported that AHA is anticipating a continued upward trend in CoVID-19 vaccine uptake while the region continues to have low or no active COVID-19 cases.

“Although we do not have any active COVID-19 cases, we still encourage everyone to be cautious as the fourth wave of COVID-19 looms.”
