The 2022 Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Canadian Championship tour is now underway.

Hardware was handed out over the weekend in the Border City at the Lloydminster PBR Winter Classic. Blake Smith of Abby, Sask., tied with Marcos Gloria of Brazil to win the event with an aggregate score of 170.5. Smith earned 24 event points in the first event win of his career.

Defending PBR Canada Champion Cody Coverchuk of Meadow Lake tied for third. Coverchuk collected 12 national points, 13 behind the leader, Gloria. He recently made history as the third multi-time Canadian champ back in November.

The season-launch event was held at the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition Association (Lloyd Ex). This was another opportunity for the organization to branch into hosting larger events again, after the limitations put on event facilities by COVID-19 mandates. Following Christmas festivities, Lloyd Ex has multiple agricultural events scheduled, including the Cattlemen’s Call networking gathering in January and Agri-Visions in February.
