Province reports 55 new COVID cases, five in northern zone, no new deaths

There are 55 new cases of COVID-19 reported today based on government statistics. This includes 32 cases among unvaccinated people.

Five new cases were found in the northern zones of the province; North West (three) and North Central (two).

No new deaths were reported today which leaves the current total at 941 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

There are currently five cases of the Omicron variant in the province, however, the regions of these cases have not been provided at this time.

Contact investigations have confirmed that the risk of community transmission is low. If any contact investigation determines a risk of community transmission, additional information will be provided to area residents to self-monitor or self-isolate and seek testing.

There are currently 544 active cases in the province, which includes 105 in the northern zones. This is a six-case rise across the province from yesterday’s total. The total number of cases in the northern zones of the province has not changed from yesterday.

More than one-third (36.4 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

Almost one-half (46.0 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged five years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Thursday, a total of 106 people are in hospital, including 35 in ICU. Of the 106 patients, 66 (62.3 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

NITHA numbers

As of Dec. 15, the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) has reported no new cases in NITHA communities.

There are four active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are found in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, four; Far North East, 0; North Central, 0; and North East, 0. There have been 6,865 cases (99 per cent) that have recovered. There are currently no people in hospital.

Athabasca Health Authority

Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) continues to report no new or active COVID-19 cases. However, Taiwo Olubanwo, AHA executive director of Primary Health Care continues to encourage people to get their vaccinations.
