Fifth straight day of high new case numbers in the province, no new deaths

The province is reporting another 1,069 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today.

There are currently 7,750 cases are considered active as new daily cases for the day have exceeded 900 cases for the fifth day in a row. Of these currently active cases, 789 are located in the six northern zones of the province.

Of the new cases today, 86 were in the north; Far North West (eight), Far North East (two), North West (12), North Central (49), and North East (15).

No new deaths were reported today. There have been zero deaths reported since Jan. 6 and the total number of deaths of Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 remains at 961 for the time being.

Total cases in the province since the pandemic began exceed 90,000 cases on Jan. 8.

Nearly one-half (44.6 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

As of Jan. 10, a total of 119 individuals are hospitalized, including 108 inpatient hospitalizations and 11 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 119 patients, 53 (44.5 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

The SHA dashboard includes 119 hospitalizations: 108 residents are inpatient: of those, 59 inpatient hospitalizations are a COVID-19-related illness, 36 are incidental, asymptomatic infections and 13 have not yet been determined. Ten residents are in ICUs: of those, eight are for COVID-19-related illnesses, two are incidental, asymptomatic infections.

Since Jan. 1, the New Cases by Vaccination Status table has shown a significant number of new cases as unvaccinated. This data is not accurate. This table is no longer featured on the dashboard until a review of the information is complete and the data rectified.

NITHA numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported 24 new cases in NITHA communities on Jan. 9. Of the new cases, four (17 per cent) are not vaccinated; two (eight per cent) was partially vaccinated; 17 (71 per cent) were fully vaccinated, and one (four per cent) was ineligible for vaccination.

There are 104 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), one; Far North West, 24; Far North East, 69; North Central, three; and North East, seven. There have been 6,927 cases (98 per cent) recovered, and there are 0 hospitalizations.

Athabasca Health Authority

While the provincial government has reported two active cases in the Far North Central zone of the province, there have been no recent updates from the Athabasca Health Authority.
