Vast majority of new COVID-19 cases reported today among vaccinated and boosted residents

The province is reporting 1,049 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan today.

Of the new cases reported today, 170 were unvaccinated or fewer than 21 days after their first dose, 43 had received their first dose or were less than 21 days from their second dose, 577 were fully vaccinated (more than 14 days since their second dose) and 259 were fully vaccinated and more than 14 days from receiving their booster dose.

Two new deaths were also reported bringing the total to 977 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

Of the new cases reported today, 220 are located in the northern zones of the province; Far North West (18), Far North East (15), North West (65), North Central (98), and North East (24).

There is currently 12,652 cases considered active in the province.

Almost two-fifths (37.8 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

As of Jan. 25, a total of 291 individuals are hospitalized, including 258 inpatient hospitalizations and 33 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 291 patients, 108 (37.1 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

The SHA dashboard includes 291 hospitalizations: 258 residents are inpatient: of those, 112 inpatient hospitalizations are a COVID-19-related illness, 120 are incidental COVID infections and 26 have not yet been determined. Of the 33 residents are in ICUs, 22 are for COVID-19-related illnesses, five are for incidental COVID infections, and three are undetermined. Three residents are in PICU/NICU: all three are for COVID-19-related illnesses.

COVID-19 Summary for January 25, 2022:

From Jan. 19–Jan. 25, 14,129 first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of primary series vaccines administered in the province to 1,848,289.

An additional 29,163 third and fourth doses have been administered in the province from Jan. 19–Jan. 25, bringing the total number of vaccines including boosters administered in the province to 2,295,038. Forty-seven per cent of eligible residents age 18+ have now received their booster dose.

As of Jan. 25, 89 per cent of residents 12 years and older and 85 per cent of residents five years older have received their first dose. Eighty-four per cent of residents 12 years and older and 79 per cent of residents five years and older are fully vaccinated.

There were 8,732 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan from Jan. 19–Jan. 25, bringing the provincial total to 111,447 cases. There were 7,919 recoveries recorded during the same period.

Sixteen new deaths were reported Jan. 19–Jan. 25,.

From Jan. 19–Jan. 25, there were 28,623 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan.

NITHA numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported 22 new cases in NITHA communities on Jan. 24.

There are 22 new cases to report today in NITHA communities. Of the new cases, five (22 per cent) are not vaccinated; three (14 per cent) are partially vaccinated; 11 (50 per cent) are fully vaccinated; and three (14 per cent) were not eligible for vaccination.

There are 225 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 29; Far North West, 46; Far North East, 99; North Central, 14; and North East, 37. There have been 7,241 cases (96 per cent) recovered, and there are 0 hospitalizations.
