Walking path construction to continue through October
Construction on a new walking path that will connect Flying Dust First Nation with Meadow Lake is scheduled to continue through October.
In 2021, the City of Meadow Lake, and Flying Dust First Nation were successful in accessing money for the project under the COVID-19 Resilience stream, as part of the Invest in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP).
The project received a $2.3-million grant, 75 per cent of which came from the federal government, and 25% from the province. When finished, the pathway project named “Connecting Communities” will be about 3 km’s long. Connecting Communities will significantly expand the walking path network, and provide easier access to multiple facilities and services.
City officials said the new pathway should reduce the number of people walking on the highway and the various risks associated with a high volume of pedestrians near speeding vehicles. Work on the pathway should wrap up by the end of October. City officials are asking drivers to be watchful for crews working on, or adjacent to the pathway.
