Meadow Lake and area residents honoured with QE II Platinum Jubilee Medal
Last weekend, 32 people from the Meadow Lake area received the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal. The ceremony took place at the Meadow Lake Seniors Centre on Sat. Oct. 29.
The province is awarding 7,000 jubilee medals province-wide this year. The recipients of the medal are selected through a nomination process. According to the government of Saskatchewan, all recipients have to meet three basic criteria.
- They are a resident of Saskatchewan or have a link to Saskatchewan (at the time of the grant of the medal);
- They have made a contribution to Canada, Saskatchewan, or to a particular region or community; and
- They were alive on February 6, 2022, the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty’s Accession to the Throne.
The event in Meadow Lake was hosted by local MLA Jeremy Harrison. Around 200 people turned out for the ceremony which was emceed by Athabasca MLA Jim Lemaigre.
