Saskatchewan loses around 2,400 jobs in November

Saskatchewan saw a sizeable drop in the number of jobs in November.

According to Statistics Canada’s monthly report, the province lost around 2,400 positions.

The Saskatoon-Biggar region saw the biggest loss, roughly 4,600 jobs.

Prince Albert and Northern Saskatchewan region, and Yorkton-Melville region each saw drops, losing around 400 positions combined.

Regina-Moose Mountain region and Swift Current-Moose Jaw region were the reasons why the month wasn’t worse as each had a positive 30 days, adding 2,200 and 400 jobs respectively.

The construction sector had the toughest November, losing approximately 2,100 positions.

The education sector had the best month, adding around 5,700 jobs.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate for four of the five regions in Saskatchewan is under four per cent. The only one above is Yorkton-Melville as the region’s rate currently sits at 4.4 per cent.
