Warm weather expected for upcoming long weekend

It looks like the weather will be nice to most communities across Saskatchewan for the upcoming Thanksgiving Long Weekend.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, places like Prince Albert, North Battleford, Meadow Lake, La Ronge, and the North East should see sunny conditions and temperatures in the high teens to low 20s.

Meteorologist Terri Lang said it most likely won’t be the last warm spell these areas see this year.

“I do think we’ll continue to see this seesaw, back and forth.”

This will be evident when the temperature drops again around next week. However, Lang noted people shouldn’t be worried about snow.

“It doesn’t look like there’s any big snowfall patterns coming through or anything like that.”

Typically, the first snowfall in Saskatchewan can happen anytime between September and November.

Environment and Climate Change Canada’s forecasts became less accurate when they try to look at days that are around two weeks away. Because of this, Lang explained she can’t say for sure that snow isn’t a possibility in the near future.

“Ultimately, Mother Nature has the last say and she’s been pulling out all the stops this year trying to make forecasting really difficult.”

Until we start seeing snow, people can expect to see a lot of frost develop overnight. The 30-year average for temperature this time of year is around zero which is when frost usually starts popping up.
