Warm Weather

Above average temperatures expected to stick around until next weekend

Residents in Central Saskatchewan can expect at least another week of warm temperatures before the cold arrives.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist James Colangelo, double-digit temperatures are expected all throughout the week before they begin to drop next weekend.

“The normal temperatures for Central Saskatchewan this time of year are highs around 9 °C and lows of around -3 °C. Right now, we’re seeing mid-teens for the highs, which is a little above normal for this time of year. We’ll continue to see that in the upcoming week and temperatures look like they’ll be dropping next weekend as that warmer air pushes off.”

He added it’s too early to say if this is the last warm stretch the area will see before old man winter comes knocking.

As the abnormal warmth isn’t too out of place for Saskatchewan fall, Colangelo explained why the weather has been like it has for the last couple of weeks.

“Currently, we have a ridge of high pressure that’s been stagnant over the Eastern prairies, specifically for the past few days, and that’s been bringing in some warmer temperatures to the area.”

“We have another system pushing through Central Saskatchewan on Tuesday that will draw in warmer temperatures from the Southwest,” he continued. “We’re seeing a bit of a milder October, but I wouldn’t say it’s super unusual for this time of year.”

Monday and Thursday are expected to be the warmest days this week, both with a high of 16 °C, while Sunday night is the coldest time of the week with a low of -1 °C. Thursday and Friday night are also expected to hover around the zero mark, both with lows of 1 °C.
