A traffic stop of suspects wanted in an armed robbery hit new heights when one of them climbed a tree to evade police custody.

Lloydminster RCMP and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) were investigating the robbery that took place at a house in mid February when they noticed the vehicle believed to be connected to the incident. The driver failed to stop for police, but officers were successful at disabling the vehicle which prompted the suspects to then flee on foot.

Three of them were arrested immediately, but a fourth suspect tried to seek refuge in a nearby tree. His efforts, however, were outmatched by the Mountie’s dog services and helicopter that helped investigators track the individual and take them into custody without further incident.

Officer discovered methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine in the vehicle. A 33-year-old resident of Yorkton, a 29-year-old and a 24-year-old, both residents of Thunderchild First Nation and a 28-year-old resident of Onion Lake have been charged with various drug related offences and resisting arrest among other charges.
