While he has organized smaller competitions with friends in the past, Campbell said this event served a larger purpose: launching a new local truck club.

“I started the truck club because there’s not really any younger truck clubs around here. We have an older car club, but they mostly do car shows, and I kind of like the burnout and mudding and drag racing and stuff like that,” he explained.

The club, called Meadow Lake Horsepower Heads, has already generated significant interest.

“The response has actually been a little overwhelming for us,” said Bill Nogier, a family friend of Campbell’s. “But it’s also encouraging, the reception, the feedback we’re getting. It can only grow from here, we’re hoping.”

“We don’t care how it looks as long as it’s got horsepower,” Nogier added.

The competition begins at 5 p.m. in the Home Hardware parking lot. A concession booth operated by the U18 Sox baseball team will also be on site.
