One wall at a time: Volunteers help Denare Beach families rebuild after devastating wildfire
The sound of hammers is replacing the silence left behind by last year’s devastating wildfire in Denare Beach.
More than a year after the Wolf Fire destroyed hundreds of homes in the northern Saskatchewan community, some families are beginning to rebuild with the help of volunteers with the Mennonite Disaster Service.
For Steven Harrison, watching his new home come together is a reminder of both what was lost and the people who are stepping up to help him rebuild.
“It has been an emotional roller-coaster,” said Harrison.
