Wanted Onion Lake man faces trafficking charges after allegedly fleeing police in Edmonton

An Onion Lake man wanted on outstanding warrants is now facing drug trafficking and weapons charges after he tried to flee officers during an investigation in Edmonton, Alta.

Saskatchewan RCMP said its Lloydminster Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team was conducting an ongoing investigation in the city on Aug. 12 when officers noticed two people with what appeared to be a firearm in a parking lot on 103 Street Northwest.

Edmonton Police Service was called to assist with the arrests.

Police said a woman was arrested without incident, while a man resisted and tried to escape before he was arrested.

Officers searched the man and seized an imitation firearm, 5.2 grams of fentanyl, 3.7 grams of methamphetamine, cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Corey Meesto, 36, of Onion Lake is charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, failing to comply, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, trafficking in property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon.

RCMP said Meesto was also arrested on outstanding warrants from Lloydminster RCMP and Edmonton Police Service.

He is scheduled to appear in Edmonton Provincial Court on Aug. 20.

The woman was released without charge. The Lloydminster trafficking response team continues to investigate, with St. Albert RCMP also assisting.
