Updated Meadow Lake zoning bylaw, community plan open for feedback

Sep 4, 2026 | 1:32 PM

The City of Meadow Lake is seeking public feedback as it resumes work on its Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw.

The update began in 2023 with a community survey but was delayed for more than a year following the departure of the previous city manager, the move into the new Co-op Centre. The project is now back on track, with adoption of the updated documents anticipated by the end of 2026.

The city said its existing planning documents are out of date and no longer work well for the community. The review has included input from residents, neighbouring communities, city staff and council, with Associated Engineering hired to guide the process and ensure it meets provincial requirements.

Most existing zoning regulations have been carried forward into the draft bylaw, with updates made to improve clarity and align with current legislation. Other significant changes are proposed in response to resident requests and deficiencies in the current bylaw.

Land-use bylaws establish rules for how buildings can be constructed and how public and private property can be used. The city said the bylaws should be clear, understandable, practical, enforceable and necessary, while complying with provincial legislation.

Residents are encouraged to review the draft Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw and provide final comments on proposed changes that affect them directly.

The city plans to present the updated documents at a public open house later this year for final review and comment. Feedback received so far has helped shape the draft documents and will continue to be considered as the process moves forward.

“Not every problem has a solution, and not every solution comes from City Hall,” the city said in its update. “By starting these conversations, we can arrive together at the best ways forward.”
